Walkabout was a series of heritage location-aware apps produced by awen productions CIC.
Walkabout St. Ives won 'Best App' at the Media Innovation Awards 2013. This location-aware app used a mixture of archive film, art, photography and storytelling to explore St Ives' rich social history and cultural heritage.
Walkabout West Cornwall was a partnership with Penlee House Gallery and Museum. The app took the museum out into the Cornish landscape and uncovered 5,000 years of local history. The app located 230 artefacts within West Cornwall and explores fine art, in particular the paintings from the Newlyn School of Art period (1880 - 1930), archaeological finds, historical items, photography and archive film from South West Film & TV Archive. The app guided the viewer on a cultural journey through the Cornish landscape and historical timeline of West Cornwall.
